    Functions of management

    The management has number of functions to perform. It takes time to understand about the different function of management but it is easier to list out. The different functions can be listed and explained as follows. One type of function is obviously the planning. Planning forms the major part in management. Before thinking about any activity, there needs to be some plan which is able to take care of everything. The second most important function would be organising. After planning, there is a need to organise the resources. Hence, organising comes in the second most important criteria. The third most important function is staffing. The activity is planned and the organising is also done. Now, it is time to think about the different types of individuals to be selected, mode of recruitment etc,. This third function is called staffing. Now all the important things in starting an activity is done. These important activities are named as planning, organising and staffing. After staffing, then there is a need to control the activities in the proper direction. Hence there is a need to understand the other important functions of management. These other functions of management can be of the following namely leading, which talks about the leadership skill, controlling and monitoring of activities and finally the most important function called motivation. All these functions are important aspects of management and they form the total sphere of executing an activity successfully.

    General management

    There are two types of management; one is General management and another is other management. One would wonder and would be curious to know about the differences between the two types of management. General management is one where the individual would know all the details about all types of management. The alternative to the general management is other management. This other management is nothing but a spectrum where the management skills related to a particular or unique kind of management is referred to. Incidentally, one can think about the other types of management like special stream. If we think about a manager, it is referred to general management. In such cases, the manager would know about Finance, HR, marketing, sales etc. Hence, the manager can be called by the name, general manager. While, in the case of special stream management, the managers would acquire skills on specific streams alone and they would be expert in that. Hence, the special stream managers are called by different names. Some of them are called as finance managers, marketing managers, sales managers or system managers. All these managers come under the purview of special stream managers. These are the major differences between two types of management namely general management and special management. This requires greater skills for everyone to understand about it.
